Human behaviour and traffic flow — •Michael Schreckenberg — Fakultät für Physik, Universität Duisburg-Essen
During the past twenty-five years the analysis of traffic flow using methods of statistical physics allowed for many new and interesting insights into the complex dynamics of road networks. Turning more and more to the details of the occurring phenomena it became clear that physics alone is not able to cope with the variety of the detected features. Human behaviour plays an important role for the understanding of what happens on the roads. Furthermore, future developments, e.g. self-driving vehicles, will give rise to new and up to now unknown problems. Although many phenomena are already quite well understood lots of open questions remain unanswered. The talk tries to give a survey of the current status of the research in this field.
