We present the properties of SmRh2Si2. Using a modified Bridgman method with indium flux we obtained platelet-shaped SmRh2Si2 single crystals. The magnetic ground state was characterized by magnetization, specific heat and electrical transport measurements. SmRh2Si2 orders antiferromagnetically below TN = 62 K with pronounced anomalies in C(T) and ρ(T). Due to the layered structure, the crystals could be cleaved easily parallel to the Sm-layers leading to well-defined atomically flat surfaces allowing to perform ARPES to investigate the valence of the Sm ions in the bulk and at the surface [1]. We found that, in spite of the antiferromagnetic order, Sm reveals divalent admixtures to the almost trivalent ground state both in the bulk and at the surface. [1] A. Chikina et al., to be published
