Topological phases and dynamics of topological excitations in the one-dimensional super-lattice Bose Hubbard model with non-local interactions — •Rui Li, Dominik Linzner, and Michael Fleischhauer — Department of Physics and Research Center OPTIMAS, University of Kaiserslautern, 67663 Kaiserslautern, Germany
We investigate Mott insulating phases of the one-dimensional superlattice Bose-Hubbard model (SL-BHM) with local and next-nearest-neighbor interactions at fractional fillings. In an infinite system the ground state of this model is degenerate and the different ground states can be distinguished by a topological quantum number. In a finite system with periodic boundary conditions, incommensurate with the filling of the bulk ground state, domain walls appear, which are topological excitations. We calculate the phase diagram of the extended SL-BHM and analyze the dynamics of such topological excitations using time-evolving block decimation (TEBD) simulations. We discuss potential applications of the topological excitations for robust information transport.
