Dielectron Production in Pb–Pb Collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV with ALICE — •Carsten Klein for the ALICE collaboration — Institut für Kernphysik, Goethe-Universität Frankfurt
Electron-positron pairs (dielectron) are an excellent experimental probe to investigate the properties of the quark-gluon plasma which is formed during ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collions. Because they do not interact strongly their spectra reflect the entire space-time-evolution of the collision. The created medium can lead to a modification of the dielectron production with respect to the vacuum rate.
In the ALICE apparatus at the LHC electrons and positrons are identified by their specific energy loss in the Inner Tracking System (ITS) and in the Time Projection Chamber (TPC) combined with the time-of-flight information from TOF.
In this contribution, we give a status report on the recent dielectron measurements in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV in the central barrel of ALICE. For the first time, we show invariant mass and pair transverse momentum spectra for this collision system at this energy.
