Grating-based x-ray phase-contrast Talbot-Lau interferometry allows to measure a material’s phase and its absorption coefficient simultaneously.
In conventional x-ray imaging, Dual Energy methods are used to calculate body fat percentages or bone densities.
Combining the Dual Energy approach with phase contrast and computed tomography, a more sophisticated investigation of materials in an object is envisaged.
This could possibly make the aforementioned applications more accurate.
Measurements with different x-ray spectra were conducted on phantom objects and biological samples.
Measurements on human renal calculi were conducted in order to characterise various mineral compositions.
This information could facilitate a decision on the destruction method of the stones prior to surgery.
