Characterizing Cosmic Neutrino Sources: A Measurement of the Energy Spectrum and Flavor Composition of the Cosmic Neutrino Flux Observed with the IceCube Neutrino Observatory — •Lars Mohrmann — DESY, Platanenallee 6, 15738 Zeuthen — now at: ECAP, Erwin-Rommel-Str. 1, 91058 Erlangen
In 2013, the IceCube Collaboration has reported the first evidence for a flux of high-energy cosmic neutrinos. While the origin of this flux remains unknown so far, the properties of its sources can be constrained by measuring its energy spectrum and its composition of electron, muon, and tau neutrinos. I will present the results of such a measurement, obtained by combining data from all available detection channels and energy ranges. The results show that the energy spectrum of the cosmic neutrino flux is steeper than anticipated, while its flavor composition is compatible with standard scenarios. They are the most accurate characterization of the cosmic neutrino flux obtained so far.
