Measurement of the W+W− cross section in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV at the ATLAS Detector — •Baishali Dutta — DESY Zeuthen, Zeuthen, Germany
The production of pairs of electroweak gauge bosons plays an important role for both, tests of the Standard Model and searches for new physics. With the first run of data-taking at LHC, the W+W− cross section has already been measured at both ATLAS and CMS experiments.
With the data collected by the ATLAS experiment in 2015 comprising an integrated luminosity of 3.16 fb−1, the fiducial and total W+W− cross section have been measured at a centre-of-energy √s = 13 TeV. The events are selected in the leptonic decay channel i.e both W decaying into two leptons (electrons, muons) and associated missing transverse momentum. This talk reports the results of this cross section measurement in 2015 and shows prospects of more precise and differential measurements with 2016 data.
