We are reporting on the structure of a strongly segregated asymmetric ABC miktoarm terpolymer, PS-arm-PI-arm-P2VP (SIV), which as determined by small angle neutron or X-ray scattering and transmission electron microscopy. We synthesized fully protonated and partially deuterated SIV miktoarm stars of similar composition where the majority component P2VP is approximately four times the molar mass of the PI or PS block. The results were compared to self-consistent field theory calculations which predicted two possible energy-minimized structures. The most consistent of the two structures was an hierar- chical lamellae structure, consisting of lamellae in lamellae. This talk will highlight, that with increasing complexity in polymer architecture, one characterization technique will not necessarily be sufficient for the determination of the structure. A brief discussion of the prospects for resonant soft X-ray scattering in these systems will also be given.
