Analyzing optical properties of methylammonium lead bromide using photoluminescence spectroscopy — •Lukas Falk, Paul Faßl, and Yana Vaynzof — Kirchhoff-Institute for Physics / Centre for Advanced Materials, Heidelberg University, Im Neuenheimer Feld 227, 69120 Heidelberg, Germany

Organometal halide perovskites drew a lot of research attention over the last years due to their intriguing material properties which make them suitable active layers in both photovoltaic (PVs) and light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

We employ photoluminescence spectroscopy to investigate the optical properties of methylammonium lead bromide (MAPbBr3) layers that are commonly used either as emissive layers in perovskite LEDs or as the active layer of a front cell in tandem perovskite PVs. We find that subtle variations in layer processing result in variations of the optical properties and subsequently variations in the performance of the devices. We also investigate the effect of exposure to oxygen on the photoluminescence quantum efficiency of the layers and compare the results to those obtained for methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3).
