In the field of 2D materials, single-layer transition metal dichalcogenides, especially MoS2, WS2, MoSe2, and WSe2, play an important role. Due to their exceptional optical and electronic properties, they are promising materials for optoelectronical applications. The key to understand the material properties is a profound knowledge of the electronic structure. The occupied electronic structure was investigated in a number of studies, yet without spin resolution. In addition, no experimental information concerning band dispersion and spin structure of the conduction bands is available so far.

We present measurements of a combined spin- and angle-resolved direct and inverse photoemission experiment, performed within the same apparatus [1,2]. Our results unravel the spin-dependent energies of the valence- and conduction bands at the K and K’ valleys, which are decisive for the optoelectronic properties of the materials.
