The P2-Experiment - A high precision determination of the proton’s weak charge — •Dominik Becker1, Kathrin Imai1, David Rodriguez Pineiro2, Sebastian Baunack1, Krishna S. Kumar4, and Frank E. Maas1, 2, 31Institut für Kernphysik, Mainz, Ger — 2Helmholtz-Institut, Mainz, Ger — 3GSI, Darmstadt, Ger — 4Stony Brook, NY, USA

The goal of the P2 collaboration is to perform a high precision determination of the electroweak mixing angle ŝZ2 at low momentum transfer to a relative precision of 0,15  %. This can be achieved by measuring the proton’s weak charge to a relative precision of 1,9  %. The parity violating asymmetry in elastic electron-proton-scattering grands experimental access to the weak charge of the proton.

The P2-Experiment will be carried out at the new electron accelerator facility MESA to be constructed in Mainz. The poster we present features the experimental concept, calculations regarding the achievable precision in the determination of the proton weak charge as well as results of Geant4-simulations carried out to validate the experimental setup.
