Research on Pseudospark Discharge and Related Technologies in India — •Udit Narayan Pal — Device Technologies Group, Microwave Devices Area, CSIR-Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute, Pilani-333031, Raj., India

There is resurgent of interest in pseudospark (PS) discharge technologies, apart from fast switching applications, to electron/ion beam generations, microwave/THz sources, EUV/X-ray radiation sources, etc. Keeping in view of these applications, CSIR-CEERI has initiated the research work on pseudospark discharges in collaboration with University of Erlangen, Germany in early 2000. The talk will cover the design, development and characterization of different Pseudospark switches (25kV/5kA, 40kV/5kA and 20kV/20kA) and similar rating thyratrons (25kV/1kA and 40kV/3kA) for different pulse power applications. The research work on high voltage (≥ 40 kV) and high current (≥ 20 kA) pseudospark switches for high energy applications will also be discussed. The recent research work on a few PS discharge based plasma cathode electron (PCE) guns for the generation of high energetic, intense and focused electron beams and also their applications for plasma-assisted slow wave oscillator will be presented. Discussion will also be made for the areas of further research on pseudospark discharge technologies for EUV/X-ray radiations, biological and surface applications. Major efforts are being now made to utilize the existing pseudospark knowledge for the development of indigenous compact and tunable EUV/soft X-ray radiation light sources.
