Creation of an integrated platform for spatial resolution determination in a monolithic scintillator — •Maria Kawula, Silvia Liprandi, Tim Binder, Michael Mayerhofer, Katia Parodi, and Peter G. Thirolf — LMU München, Germany
The LMU Compton Camera is being developed in Garching for ion-beam range verification during particle therapy. The system is detecting prompt γ−rays produced in nuclear reactions after the irradiation of the tissues. The camera consists of a scatterer (6 layers of double-sided Si-strip detectors) and a monolithic LaBr3(Ce) scintillator as absorber, read out by a multianode photomultiplier. To determine the photon interaction position in the scintillator we are using the "k-Nearest-Neighbour" algorithm and its improved version "Categorical Average Pattern" [1]. Those algorithms are based on the comparison of every recorded photon event with a large reference library of 2D light amplitude distributions obtained by scanning the scintillator front surface with tightly collimated 60Co and 137Cs sources in 104 different positions. For each position 400 photopeak events were acquired; every event has to be compared to all the other 4·106 events. The considerable amount of data that needs to be processed leads to a long computational time and a big amount of used memory. The results of an optimization of the analysis platform will be presented. This work was supported by the DFG Cluster of Excellence Munich Centre for Advanced Photonics.
