Evaluation of selected physical parameters measured with smartphones — •Konradin Weber, Jan Thielke, and Christian Fischer — Hochschule Düsseldorf (HSD), Labor für Umweltmesstechnik, Münsterstr. 156, 40476 Düsseldorf
Smartphones found meanwhile widespread and daily use within the population. Small sensors implemented within the smartphones enable the measurement of physical parameters like acceleration, temperature, atmospheric pressure, altitude, geographical position, magnetic and light quantities. However, at this point the question arises, how reliable these smartphone sensor data are. Therefore tests and evaluations concerning these parameters were started for this study, using different smartphones and open access apps. Moreover, selected measurement results of physical parameters delivered by the smartphones were inter-compared with the measurement results of commercial instruments. Additionally, physical demonstration experiments were tested using a dedicated app for physical smartphone experiments.
