With the recent surge in interest in ligh harvesting complexes (LHC) as a substitution for more traditional choices of dye in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC), the question of stability of the biological compounds becomes more pressing. LHC are required to withstand effects of photobleaching, heat and possibly hostile electrolytic environments to ensure the longevity of the created devices. This is necessary for LHC to be able to become a low-cost, low-toxicity alternative to the more commonplace dyes. To this end, LHC-based DSSC have been kept under constant illumination for an extended (> 48h) period of time, while their power output, short-circuit current and open-circtuit voltage had been measured at least once per hour.
