We present numerical evidence of an interaction-driven quantum Hall plateau transition between a |C|>1 Chern Insulator and a ν = 1/3 Laughlin state in the Hofstadter model. We study the model using DMRG at flux densities p/q, where the lowest Landau level (LLL) manifold is made up of p magnetic sub-bands. First, we show explicit evidence that a ν = 1/3 Laughlin state can be stabilised in situations where the LLL consists of multiple bands, when the interaction strength V is sufficiently high. Matching the number of magnetic sub-bands to 1/ν, the model also realises a Chern insulator at low interaction strength. We show evidence for a direct transition between these two phases at some flux densities, and we characterise the transition in terms of its critical, topological and entanglement properties.
