Broad Absorptance Behavior of High Entropy Oxide (MgCoNiCuZn)O — •Maria Barrera, Emeline Michele, Lars Wening, and Matthias Wuttig — IA Instutute of Physics RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, Germany
Near-equimolar High Entropy Oxides (HEO), which are stabilized due to the entropy-driven formation of simple-phases, provide an interesting combination of properties including colossal dielectric constants. (MgCoNiCuZn)O high entropy oxide films have been deposited onto silicon and glass via reactive magnetron sputtering using a MgCoNiCuZn target. Thin films show an unusually broad absorptance (1-R-T) ranging from the ultraviolet to the near-infrared regime. The origin of this unconventional absorption is related to the crystallographic structure, grain size, and composition for films deposited at different oxygen partial pressures.
