Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) exhibit excellent non-classical emission properties, most notably high single photon purity and photon indistinguishability values as well as a high fidelity of entangled photon pairs. With these, the essential prerequisites as light sources for applications in quantum communication are fullfilled.
We present InAs/In(Ga)As/GaAs QDs emitting at 1550nm (telecom C-band) wavelengths which matches the absolute absorption minimum of standard silica fibers. Coherence properties of the emitted photons are compared under different optical excitation schemes. Non-resonant (above band) excitation is investigated as well as (quasi-)resonant schemes, highlighting the superior suitability of the latter for possible appplications regarding coherence.
