For single crystals with dimensions in the mm range, THz spectroscopy faces the problem of diffraction when the wavelength becomes comparable to the sample size. For instance, the transmitted intensity is significantly suppressed with increasing wavelength, hampering a quantitative analysis. We show, however, that the phase of the photons reaching the detector still can be analysed quantitatively, extending the accessible range for THz spectroscopy to lower frequencies. As an example, we study a single domain of chiral Ni3TeO6 with circularly polarized light in high magnetic field, establishing the existence of directional dichroism. This effect can be attributed to the chiral and polar structure and the large dynamic magneto-electric susceptibility.
