Sections of generalized probabilistic theories — •Jonathan Steinberg and Matthias Kleinmann — University of Siegen, Germany
Generalized probabilistic theories (GPTs) allow us to write quantum
theory in a purely operational language and enable us to formulate
other, vastly different theories. Sections of GPTs can serve as a
description of subsystems [1] and in general provide relations between
GPTs. We investigate the structure and properties of sections of GPTs
and give a complete characterization of low dimensional sections of
arbitrary quantum systems. As an application we study Spekkens toy
model [2] as a section. In addition, we combine the notion of sections
with the dynamics in a GPT and consider the implications for quantum
theory.
