Precise and permanent measurement of the earth's magnetic field — •Florian von Bargen1 and Hans-Otto Carmesin1,2,3 — 1Gymnasium Athenaeum, Harsefelder Straße 40, 21680 Stade — 2Studienseminar Stade, Bahnhofstr. 5, 21682 Stade — 3Universität Bremen, Fachbereich 1, Postfach 330440, 28334 Bremen
In the following article we would like to address the problem of blackouts caused by solar flares. The aim of the project is to measure and record the magnetic B-field of the Earth, in order to make a prediction based on this in terms of frequency and intensity. This is influenced by the solar winds. Through various development steps a robust precision of the measurements could be achieved, which then led to the construction of an own stationary measuring station in Stade. A correlation with the data of the magnetic field measuring station of the Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt was carried out, since the construction of the own station was oriented to the PTB. The correlation of the data showed that a solar event was measured by our station and could be confirmed by the Kp index and the data of the PTB. This is the event of 23.12.2020 from 4-7 o'clock CET, at this time the Kp index was 4+. Moreover, the measurement was recorded on the night side of the Earth, which confirms another precision of our measurement data. Our station has verifiably and accurately recorded the Earth's magnetic field. To explain the results we will show some formulas, calculations and spreadsheets. The project is presented as an example for teamwork in an ensemble of projects in the field of climate change that are carried out in a research club at our school.
