In this work, we show that the interplay between the Neel order and the spin-orbit coupling present in 4f electron systems are key ingredients to give rise to the emergence of an electronic nematic state in this kind of system. Our result can shed light on the understanding of the experimental results observed for the heavy-fermion compound CeRhIn5.
