Magnetostriction in the J-K-Γ-model on the honeycomb lattice — •Alexander Schwenke and Wolfram Brenig — Institute for Theoretical Physics, Technical University Braunschweig, D-38106 Braunschweig, Germany

Using the numerical linked cluster expansion (NLCE) [1], we investigate thermodynamic and magnetoelastic properties of the J-K-Γ spin-1/2 model on the honeycomb lattice in the presence of a magnetic field B, for field orientations both in-plane and out-of-plane.

Apart from the specific heat and the magnetization, we focus in particular on the linear magnetostriction coefficient λ(B,T). As a prime result and based on expansions up to order ∼ O(11), we find clear indications for a field-induced transition in λ(B,T).

Employing exchange parameters as proposed for α−RuCl3, our results are very similar to recently observed experimental data [2] on this proximate quantum spin-liquid candidate material.
