The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) is an asymmetric exchange interaction[1,2] promoting chiral coupling between spins, giving rise to robust, chiral, topological spin textures, e.g., skyrmions with outstanding properties for information storage and processing[3]. DMI may originate, e.g., from the interface between a ferromagnet and a heavy metal. Recently it has been demonstrated that the DMI at such interfaces can be tuned by irradiation with keV He+ ions[4]. In a systematic study, we investigated the influence of local He+ ion irradiation on the magnetization dynamics in a perpendicularly magnetized ferromagnetic/heavy metal multilayer system by high-resolution magneto-optical Kerr-microscopy.
