Tb3Ni exhibits a large variety of temperature and magnetic-field dependent phase transitions in a temperature range of 3 to 90 K. This gives rise to a very competitive conventional magnetocaloric effect and an inverse magnetocaloric effect at very low temperature. These properties make this material an interesting candidate for magnetic refrigeration applications in the gas liquefaction temperature range. In this work, we present a comprehensive analysis of the magnetocaloric effect in a Tb3Ni single crystal in pulsed magnetic fields up to 50 T and by heat capacity measurements in static fields.
