Enhancing the Coherence of Superconducting Quantum Bits with Electric Fields — •Juergen Lisenfeld, A. Bilmes, and A. V. Ustinov — Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Wolfgang-Gaedestr. 1, 76131 Karlsruhe, Germany
We demonstrate a technique to enhance the energy relaxation time T1 of superconducting transmon qubits.
For this, we expose the qubit sample to a DC-electric field in order to control the resonance frequencies of parasitic two-level defects residing on the surface of qubit electrodes. Using a simple algorithm to adjusting the electric field such that dominating defects are tuned farthest from the qubit resonance, we observed on average 23% higher qubit T1-times.
This technique can also be implemented in superconducting quantum processors to enable simultaneous in-situ coherence optimization of individual qubits.
