CO2-laser fabrication of mirrors for fiber based cavity QED — •David Opferkuch, Patrick Maier, Gregor Bayer, Selene Sachero, Robert Berghaus, and Alexander Kubanek — Institute for Quantum Optics, Ulm University, Germany
High quality resonators are essential for many quantum photonic applications that rely on the fast and efficient exchange of single photons. In this context, a lot of effort is dedicated to minimizing the mode volume Vλ while achieving a high value quality factor Q. For a Fabry-Pérot resonator, the resulting challenge is to fabricate concave structures with a small radius of curvature ROC and a low surface roughness σsc.
Utilizing CO2-laser based ablation, concave structures can be produced, which allow for use as concave mirrors in open Fabry-Pérot microcavities after coating.
The structures produced here demonstrate small radii of curvature ROC and surface roughnesses σsc in the sub-nanometer regime. This leads to good F/Vλ ratio as F = π/T + S + A with S = ( 4 π σsc/λ )2. Hence, large values for cooperativity and Purcell enhancement can be expected.
