Proteins exhibit a rich phase behavior, including the formation of amyloid fibrils, which have been linked to many diseases, e.g. Alzheimer's disease. Understanding the dynamics associated with amyloid fibril formation and beyond, such as liquid-liquid phase separation, nucleation and gel-formation, is thus of substantial interest. X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS) is a state-of-the-art method to study matter over a broad range of time- and length scales, which was successfully used to study protein systems [1]. Here, we use this method to follow the dynamics and the structural changes of the Alzheimer associated, amyloid fibril forming, protein Tau. After inducing the fibrillation with Heparin, at a Tau concentration of 100 mg/ml, and waiting for 22 hours, a fractal structure with a characteristic length of around 200 nm has evolved. The dynamics exhibited ballistic behavior that show similarities to the dynamics in gels.
