The German Research Foundation (DFG) is one of the largest research funding organizations in Germany. It is self-governed by the scientific community and offers a broad range of funding opportunities from individual grants to larger coordinated programmes. The talk will give an overview of the DFG funding schemes and the bodies involved in the decision process, in particular the elected review boards. Also, we will attempt to give some first-hand insights into the review and decision process from the perspective of the DFG head office and a current review board member.
