The spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the diamond-decorated square lattice exhibits a rich ground-state phase diagram in a magnetic field [1]. We investigate the thermodynamic properties of this model using a combination of analytical and numerical methods, including full diagonalization up to effectively N=30 sites. We focus in particular on the vicinity of a “dimer-tetramer” phase at low magnetic fields that maps to a classical dimer model on the square lattice and retains a macroscopic ground-state ddegeneracy in a magnetic field. We discuss the consequences of this degeneracy for the thermodynamic and magnetocaloric properties of the system.
