Metallic magnetic calorimeters (MMCs) are energy-dispersive X-ray detectors which provide an excellent energy resolution over a large dynamic range combined with a very good linearity. MMCs convert the energy of each incident photon into a temperature pulse which is measured by a paramagnetic temperature sensor. The resulting change of magnetisation is read out by a SQUID magnetometer.

To investigate electron transitions in U90+ at CRYRING@FAIR within the framework of the SPARC collaboration, we developed the 2-dimensional maXs-100 detector array. It features 8x8 pixels with a detection area of 1 cm2 and a stopping power of 40 % at 100 keV. Four on-chip thermometers allow to correct for temperature drifts and to achieve an energy resolution of 40 eV at 60 keV. We show preliminary X-ray spectra of the recent U90+ beamtime. Due to the small rate of emitted X-rays, a good supression of background radiation is mandatory, which was ensured by a coincidence measurement with a particle detector. To increase the stopping power to above 60 % at 100 keV we develop a new maXs-100 detector with 100 µm thick absorbers.
