With its exceptionally low energy of the isomeric first excited nuclear state, which has most recently been constrained to 8.338(24) eV (i.e. λ=148.71(42) nm) [1], 229mTh is in the focus of current research as the only suitable candidate to build a nuclear clock based on it. One of the isomer’s properties to be further investigated is its internal conversion (IC) lifetime when IC is triggered by neutralization of 229mTh on a metallic catcher surface. After first hints on its dependence on the electronic environment of 229mTh [2], the IC lifetime of 229mTh2+,3+ ions will now be evaluated systematically for various metal surfaces with different work functions. This talk presents the current status of these investigations at LMU.
