Sensing acetaldehyde using Pt/TiOx sensors — •Marvin Rauhut, Anastasija Scherer, Thomas Heinzel, and Mihai Cerchez — Condensed Matter Physics Laboratory, Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf
The photocatalytic decomposition has been shown to be the most promising route to air purification for volatile organic compounds, both at TiOx [1] and Pt/TiOx [2] catalyst surfaces. Here, a vertical structure formed by a thin Pt layer on a mesoporous TiOx film with high density of oxygen vacancies is used as a sensor for acetaldehyde. While first results are encouraging, this presentation will show the progress on tuning the surface structure to maximise sensitivity to acetaldehyde, measured as the change of the resistance of the sensor during the exposure to various concentrations of acetaldehyde.
