Nitrogen-doped Ni-TiO2 Nanoarrays via plasma treatment as Sodium-Ion Battery Anodes — •Mo Sha, Huaping Zhao, and Yong Lei — Fachgebiet Angewandte Nanophysik, Institut für Physik & IMN MacroNano, Technische Universität Ilmenau, 98693 Ilmenau, Germany

Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are a potential substitute for Li-ion batteries for energy storage devices due to their abundant reserves and low sodium cost. TiO2 is considered one of the promising anodes for SIBs due to its large sodium storage capacity. However, low electrical conductivity greatly reduces its rate performance and limits the broad application of TiO2 for SIBs. Here, we fabricated 3D Ni-TiO2 core-shell nanoarrays using nanoimprinted AAO templating and atomic layer deposition (ALD) technique. Then, the 3D Ni-TiO2 nanoarrays were treated via a nitrogen plasma system and directly used as anode. The 3D Ni-TiO2 arrayed anode can offer fast electron transport and high ion accessibility, and the nitrogen-doping also significantly improves the electrical conductivity of TiO2, resulting in a significant enhancement of the electrochemical performance, especially the rate performance.
