We study theoretically the optical response of the d-wave altermagnet RuO2. As an altermagnetic material RuO2 shows a momentum-dependent spin polarization in reciprocal space without net magnetization [1,2]. We investigate in particular how the underlying symmetries affect its optical characteristics. We employ a hybrid approach that combines Density Functional Theory (DFT) and optical transition probabilities in a Fermi’s Golden Rule approach [3] to simulate the excitation with momentum, spin and band resolution.
