In superconductors with a d(x2-y2)-gap symmetry, the existence of a non-zero winding number leads to the appearance of zero-energy flat-bands on certain edges. These bands are protected by the chiral symmetry and occupy a two-dimensional region of the Brillouin zone bounded by the projections of the superconducting nodes. A recently established approach to cleave crystals by means of micro-notches paves the way for the study of these surface states by ARPES.
