Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) molecules are important in the study of interstellar chemistry. The discovery of benzonitrile in the molecular cloud TMC-1 hints at the existence of larger aromatic molecules which might explain still unassigned infrared bands [1,2]. We are interested in the spectroscopic study of deprotonated naphthalene (C10H7−). Photoelectron spectroscopic studies of this molecule were performed, which found the electron affinities of two possible isomers [3].
Here we present a 2D tomography photodetachment scan of deprotonated naphthalene in our cryogenic 16 pole trap, which we measure in order to extract the value of the absolute photodetachment cross section. We further plan to examine the behaviour of the cross section near threshold and measure the electron affinity of the molecule.
