A simulation-based feasibility study of the measurement of KL0 in ALICE — •Laura Gans-Bartl for the ALICE Germany collaboration — Institut für Kernphysik, Goethe-Universität Frankfurt

The ALICE experiment is designed to study the characteristics of hot and dense nuclear matter created in heavy-ion collisions. The measurement of a large variety of identified particles can help to better understand the underlying physics processes at play, while particle production in proton proton (pp) collisions serves as a baseline for these measurements. The production of one of the eigenstates of the neutral Kaon, KS0, has been measured several times in pp collisions by the ALICE collaboration1. The KL0 has not been measured so far, as the measurement is more challenging due to its long flight time.
In this contribution, a simulation-based feasibility study of KL0 → π+ππ0, π0 → γ γ in pp collisions with ALICE is presented. Charged pions can be measured with the main tracking detectors of the experiment, while neutral pions can be reconstructed from decay photons measured with eletromagnetic calorimeters. Based on a PYTHIA simulation, the influence of the efficiency and acceptence of the ALICE experiment is studied, and possibilities and limits of the measurement of KL0 are discussed.
