Improving the automated track-based alignment of the CMS pixel detector — •Philipp Nattland, Valeria Botta, Danilo Meuser, and Marius Teroerde — RWTH Aachen

The inner tracker is a crucial component of the Compact Muon Solenoid detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Precise knowledge of the tracker geometry is essential to ensure excellent physics performance through accurate reconstruction of tracks and vertices.

Time-dependent calibrations are done to the position, rotation and curvature of the 1856 pixel and 15148 strip modules, that comprise the tracking sub-system, in a procedure called tracker alignment. The frequent calibration updates are dictated by magnet cycles, temperature variations and irradiation effects that lead to changes in the track reconstruction. To meet the high-precision requirements, an automated alignment of the pixel detector is employed. The quality of the alignment, e.g. judged by means of the track-vertex impact parameters, is known to depend on the selection of the particle tracks used in the calibration procedure. In this talk, the results of including Z to μμ tracks in the automated alignment workflow are shown.
