Correlations in cascaded quantum optical systems consist of a large number of atoms — •Saptarshi Saha, Francesco Petiziol, and André Eckardt — Institute of Theoretical Physics, Technical University of Berlin Hardenbergstr. 36, Sekr. EW 7-1, 10623 Berlin, Germany.
Simulating a many-body open quantum system is challenging due to the exponential growth of the Hilbert space dimension for increasing the number of atoms. We review some of the recent techniques, i.e., truncated Wigner approximation (TWA) and generalized mean-field theory (GMFT), that can be used for calculating the equal time correlations (e.g., Superradiance) in cascaded quantum optical systems consisting of a large number of atoms. We also compare the applicability of the above-mentioned methods in different cases, which includes the computation of unequal time correlations (i.e., photon (anti)bunching effect).
