The differential scattering cross section for heavy flavor production in polarized deeply inelastic scattering is calculated to O(α_s²) and beyond for the structure functions g₁(x,Q²) and g₂(x,Q²) in the kinematic region Q² ≫ m². The massive operator matrix elements are calculated using the light–cone expansion in Mellin space up to the O(є) terms, which contribute to the renormalization of the 3–loop terms. The O(α_s²) results are compared with results in the literature for the structure function g₁(x,Q²).
